Planting Day at Herkimer Apartments

Residents spent a sunny Tuesday filling community garden beds at Herkimer Apartments. Helping to guide and over see the event was Brittany, Dwelling Place's new Beautification Specialist. Residents have the opportunity to plant, care for and harvest container gardens in community spaces throughout various Dwelling Place properties. Residents shared planting techniques and anecdotes as they prepared the planting beds and carved out their plots.

New Dwelling Place Property

For the first time, Dwelling Place will be breaking ground in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. The former Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School is the site of an adaptive reuse project in which the school will be converted to a 50-unit affordable housing community. The project is set to break ground in the spring of this year and will be seeking Silver LEED Certification. The property will consist of permanent supportive housing for homeless and special needs and affordable housing. Dwelling Place is excited to branch out into a new community and further its neighborhood revitalization efforts. .

Art.Downtown 2016

Avenue for the Arts hosted its annual Art.Downtown last Saturday April 9, 2016 and it was a major success. With local artists featured at more than 40 different locations around the downtown and surrounding area, the city was booming with people from 12:00-9:00pm. Artists of every genera filled the streets, stores, restaurants, and other venues, inviting any and everyone to experience their showcased pieces, free of charge. Multiple trolleys ran around town taking visitors to the next venue.
